PISQ-12 Scores in Patients with Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Objectives: To our knowledge, there have been no studies evaluating the association between PISQ-12 scores and having both urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. In this study, we aim to assess if having urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse has a statistically significant effect on PISQ-12 scores.

Methods: The PISQ-12 survey was administered to clinic patients between the years 2016-2019. All questionnaires were completed at the initial evaluation, done at a single location of an academic health center. This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board. ISI scores and PFDI-20 were used to determine the presence of pelvic organ prolapse and/or urinary incontinence. Demographics, including age and race, and PISQ-12 were analyzed (Table 1). One-hundred and two patients did not report race on the questionnaire and were labeled as unknown. Statistical analysis included students t-tests, Anova, and multivariable regression where appropriate.

Results: Of the 377 female patients who completed both the ISI survey and PISQ-12 form, 347 had urinary incontinence, 123 had any degree of prolapse and 119 patients had both urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, of which the majority were Caucasian (49.6%). PISQ-12 scores were significantly higher in patients with both urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse as compared to those with one or no, with an average of 20 vs 17 and a p value < 0.05. PISQ-12 scores also trend higher in patients with pelvic organ prolapse alone, with an average of 19.7 vs 17.2 and a p value < 0.05. PISQ-12 were not significantly different when comparing urinary incontinence alone.

Conclusions: PISQ-12 scores trend higher amongst patients with both pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence.
