RT05: Case Studies in Recurrent UTI: Practical advice to implement the guidelines.

UTI’s affect women in disproportionate rates. There is a subgroup of women who have true recurrent UTI: and they note a discrete change in the frequency of their UTI symptoms. After a history and physical, the evaluation should establish: the onset of symptoms, the details leading up to a UTI, all recent test results and the associated treatment(s). Through a series of case studies of patients with Recurrent UTI’s from an Academic Urology/FPMRS office, the group will walk through the implementation of recommendations. The different medical association’s Clinical Guidelines for UTI’s will be reviewed. (AUGS/AUA/SUFU). Clinicians will learn the skills to facilitate the development of a personalized evaluation and management plan for their patients. Additional case studies will highlight how best to identify the subgroup of patients with whom the recurrent UTI indicates conditions that warrant accelerated evaluation and management: such as but not limited to: diabetes, neurogenic disease, bladder dysfunction, or pelvic floor disorders.
Lastly, nonmedical, nonantibiotic prevention strategies will be reviewed, despite the lack of high quality, level 1 evidence to support their use.

Additional objectives:
1. Review the role of nonantibiotic prevention strategies despite limited supporting level 1 evidence.
2. Review definitions and recommendations for asymptomatic bacteriuria.
