RT12: Managing Pelvic Hematoma after Urogynecologic Procedures
Thursday, October 24, 2024
6:45 AM – 7:45 AM EDT
Location: Chinatown (Meeting Level 3)
Pelvic hematoma is a known surgical complications especially after urogynecologic procedures. Although it is rare, an unrecognized pelvic hematoma can be detrimental and lead to serious consequences including death.
The three primary approaches for managing pelvic hematomas are conservative management with careful observation, surgical intervention, and selective arterial embolization. Evaluation of a patient with suspected postoperative bleeding starts with assessing the patient’s reported symptoms and signs from physical examination in timely manner; and further evaluation with imaging.
This roundtable will discuss two clinical scenarios (ex. retropubic hematoma after sling placement: and, vaginal hematoma after posterior repair) and how to manage those clinical situations.
