Morgan Lee Egnot, MS (they/them) is a seventh-year MD/PhD trainee at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Morgan is pursuing a PhD in Bioengineering with a concentration in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine under the mentorship of Drs. Pamela Moalli, MD PhD and Steven Abramowitch, PhD. Their dissertation research focuses on development and characterization of novel vaginal extracellular matrix-derived biomaterials for use in pelvic reconstructive procedures such as vaginoplasty and pelvic organ prolapse repair. Morgan’s clinical research interests include identifying factors influencing access and travel for gender-affirming genital surgery across the United States. After completing the MSTP, Morgan intends to pursue additional training as a urologic surgeon specializing in gender affirming genitoplasty.
Morgan’s research is funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development via the Ruth L. Kirschstein Individual Predoctoral NRSA, the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering via the Pitt Biomechanics in Regenerative Medicine T32 Training Program, and the Magee-Womens Research Institute. Prior to joining the Pitt MSTP, Morgan received a combined MS/BS in Nanoscale Science and Interdisciplinary BS in Bioengineering from the University of Albany, SUNY in Albany, NY, USA. Morgan is a member of the American Physician Scientists Association, World Professional Organization for Transgender Health, Medical Student Pride Alliance, and International Society of Nonbinary Scientists. Morgan is the current President and Institutional Representative for the Local Pitt Med Chapter of the American Physician Scientists Association.
