Dr. Artsen is an Assistant Professor in the Dept of ObGynRS at the University of Pittsburgh and a Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) scholar. She completed her fellowship at UPMC after residency at University of California, San Diego and went to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. As an academic surgeon-scientist, she divides her time between clinical duties, teaching, and research. She earned a master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Research. Her areas of research interest include biomaterials for prolapse repair, vaginal wound healing, gender affirming care, biomarkers for bladder pain and overactive bladder, and the vaginal and urinary microbiome. She is also funded through a Magee-Womens Research Institute - Penn State Behrend Seed Grant to test sustainable and biodegradable biomaterials. She is the co-founder of the AUGS Healthcare Sustainability special interest group. She serves as the Chair of the Magee-Womens Research Institute Sustainability Committee and is on the steering committee for UPMC’s Clinicians for Climate Action.
