Dr. Rui Liang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, College of Medicine, Ohio State University. She earned her MD degree from Xi'an Medical University in China in 1995. Following graduation, she received residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and completed a research fellowship at the University of Tokyo in Japan. Between 2004 and 2010, she received post-doctoral training in bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, with a focus on translational and functional tissue engineering of ligaments and tendons. Dr. Liang's laboratory is dedicated to translating basic scientific findings into high-quality women's healthcare. Her research, supported by federal funding, focuses on investigating the mechanisms behind the increased risk of mesh complications in women with diabetes. The ultimate goal is to develop targeted molecular and cellular therapies to improve surgical and implant outcomes for this group. Dr. Liang's laboratory is equipped with advanced technologies for tissue, cell, and molecular analyses, including cutting-edge multiplex assays and omics techniques. Additionally, the lab has established animal models for diabetes and pelvic surgeries. Dr. Liang's unique combination of clinical practice, bioengineering experience, and basic research expertise enables her to bridge different disciplines in pursuit of translational studies.
