Reconstructive Pelvic Surgeon
VHC Health & Georgetown University SOM
Dr. Patti Mwesigwa is a transplanted Texan who completed her OBGYN residency at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, and Virginia Hospital Center (now VHC Health). After residency, she completed a three-year fellowship in Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery within the Department of Urology at UCLA. Dr. Mwesigwa then joined a large urology private practice in California, holding privileges and operating at eight hospitals and surgery centers. In this time she honed her efficiency while prioritizing personalized patient care. She is delighted to return to one of her favorite hospitals on the east coast and serve patients in the DMV.
She specializes in incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic floor dysfunction. Dr. Mwesigwa is skilled in fistula repairs, managing complex voiding dysfunction, and performing both native-tissue and graft-augmented pelvic reconstruction.
Dr. Mwesigwa is fellowship-trained in reconstructive pelvic surgical techniques, and is excited to offer uterine-sparing prolapse repairs. She offers minimally-invasive robotic surgeries and natural-orifice transvaginal repairs, along with traditional open and laparoscopic techniques. As an attending surgeon in California, she met the strict criteria for certification by Intuitive as a Console Surgeon on the Da Vinci Xi surgical system. She is one of the few gynecologists nation-wide to have completed a truly integrated, cross-specialty fellowship within the Department of Urology. She is grateful for mentorship by remarkable gynecologists and urologists.
She served as Academic Chief Resident while at Georgetown, and was recognized with eleven teaching awards during her four years on the east coast.
In her personal life, Dr. Mwesigwa is a proud U.S. Air Force spouse. She treasures spending time with their daughter, collecting fountain pens & houseplants, and embroidering.
