Marian Acevedo-Alvarez, MD, MPH

Dr. Acevedo Alvarez completed her undergraduate studies in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. She then pursued her M.D. and OB/GYN residency from NYU School of Medicine and her fellowship in Urogynecology from Yale-New Haven Hospital. She joined Loyola University as faculty in September 2018, where she currently has joint appointments in the departments of OB/GYN and Urology. She completed her Master in Public Health from Loyola Parkinson’s School of Public Health in 2022. She has diverse research interests in graduated education, urobiome, and health disparities. She was NIH-funded in the Prevention of Lower Urinary Symptoms (or the PLUS) research consortium that seeks to better understand normal bladder function. She is particularly involved in the PLUS sub-group responsible for cross-cultural adaptation of bladder health tools for the Latinx community. She is the co-chair of the American Urogynecology Society’s (AUGS) Diversity and Inclusion Committee and immediate past chair for the Loyola OB/GYN Department DEI Committee. She is the founder of the Boricua Urogyn Group, a group of Boricua urogynecologists created to support and mentor the Puerto Rican medical community and to promote patient education in pelvic floor disorders.
