Dr. Bretschneider is the Chief of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery and the Director of the Northwestern Women's Integrated Pelvic Health Clinic. She grew up in the Washington DC area and attended Princeton University where she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Anthropology and a certificate in East Asian Studies. After medical school at the University of Virginia, she completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina where she was recognized with a number of teaching and clinical awards. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Bretschneider has a passion for taking care of women with pelvic floor disorders. She has extensive experience in addressing pelvic floor disorders from both non-surgical and surgical approaches depending on the needs and goals of her patients. She performs all modalities of minimally invasive surgery, including vaginal surgery and traditional laparoscopic surgery as well as robotic surgery. From a research standpoint, Dr. Bretschneider is focused on research pursuits in population based database studies and patient-reported outcomes particularly for older women with chronic issues with overactive bladder.
