Dr. Veronica Lerner was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and immigrated from the former Soviet Union, moving to Denver, Colorado with her family when she was in high school. She attended college and medical school at the University of Colorado. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital and pelvic surgery fellowship at Virginal Mason Hospital in Seattle.
From 2007 until 2017, she was part of the NYU School of Medicine, Department of OB/GYN academic faculty. She served as the department’s Director of Simulation, building programs, and medical teams, mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows during their training, and rising to the rank of Associate Professor. From 2017-2022, she continued in a similar role at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. She has assembled multi-disciplinary surgical teams and comprehensive services for patients with endometriosis and fibroids; and performs surgeries for prolapse and incontinence. In 2022, she joined Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health. She has been promoted to the rank of full professor in 2024.
Her academic interests include education via simulation and its relationship with quality improvement, advancement of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and the quality of surgical care. She has authored multiple publications, including 34 peer-reviewed articles, and is serving as a peer reviewer for four journals. She served on the Editorial Board of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Journal. Now she serves as an associate editor for Simulation in Healthcare Journal and is an associate editor for the Society of Gynecologic Surgery for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has received 15 institutional and 4 nationally recognized teaching awards. She is actively involved in leadership positions at the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), and SGS (Society of Gynecologic Surgeons).
