Gary Sutkin, MD, MBA, is the Associate Dean and Victor and Caroline Schutte Chair in Women’s Health at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine. He is a Professor with tenure in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and in the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics. He is a Urogynecologist and is Board-Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. At UMKC, he was the Residency Program Director 2016-2019. At the University of Pittsburgh, he served as Clerkship Director from 2008-016. Doctor Sutkin served as a Chair of the American Urogynecologic Society’s Education Committee 2017-2020, and Co-Chair of the National Board of Medical Examiners Women’s Health Test Material Development Committee from 2019-2022. He has served on the Division for the Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Division at the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2022. He has been faculty for the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology Surgical Education Scholars Program since 2018. He is passionate about the education of tomorrow’s doctors. His current research interests address intraoperative communication, surgical education & safety, and error prevention. His National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering sponsored research focuses on surgeon kinematics and surgical error. He has research funding to study miscommunication in the OR from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
