Bianca is a 4th year PhD candidate in the Bioengineering Department at the University of California San Diego. After receiving her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, she joined the lab of Dr. Karen Christman at UCSD to research biomaterials and regenerative medicine. She plans to bridge biomaterials and women’s health research with the co-mentorship of Dr. Marianna Alperin, a practicing female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery specialist. Being co-mentored by Dr. Christman and Dr. Alperin allows her to research the impact pregnancy and lactation have on regeneration of pelvic floor muscles following childbirth injury to better optimize therapeutics that can prevent pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.
